A mysterious man walking in white robes through the streets of Mthatha left locals amazed and wishing he would bless them.

The clip was shared on Facebook via Maskandi Trends and had social media in hysterics, with many calling it the most random thing they’ve seen in a long time.

Man in robes sparks wild reactions

The man wore white pants, a robe that matched them, and sandals, and carried a long stick. He was walking calmly when a group of ladies in a car turned a corner and screamed at the sight of him. They instantly shouted out for blessings in isiXhosa, shocked by how much he resembled the "Jesus" figure from movies.

Not only did they scream, but they spun the car around to follow him. They kept calling after him, with one saying she had never seen anything like this in Mthatha. The robe, the stick, the sandals, it gave full biblical vibes, and the whole moment was just giving the main character energy.

Spotting a man resembling the "Jesus figure"

After a mysterious man dressed in white robes and sandals was seen walking calmly through the streets of Mthatha, the Briefly News team reached out to a respected voice in the Christian community, deacon Ditsego Morupe, to share his insights on the event and what it shows about faith in South Africa.

We asked the deacon's thoughts on the women's reaction to seeing the "Jesus figure" man. He said:

"I see the video as a deeper spiritual hunger in our people. The man’s appearance, whether intentional or not, reminded many of the common portrayal of Jesus. That alone tells us that people are yearning for a tangible encounter with the divine, even in the most unexpected form."

The Briefly News team asked the deacon if he thought the video being turned into a huge joke online was disrespectful to the Christian faith. The man of God added:

"Humour is often how people deal with things they can't explain. While we must always respect sacred imagery, I also believe that faith is not fragile. If anything, the laughter, the shock, the curiosity, all of it points to the impact Jesus still has on hearts today, even through a random street moment. We must use these moments to steer people toward the truth, not shame them."

When asked what advice he would give Christians who feel confused or conflicted after seeing the clip. Deacon Ditsego responded:

"I would say, do not let confusion cloud your faith. Ask yourself, “What does this stir in me?” If it makes you curious or doubtful, open your Bible.

"If it makes you laugh, thank God for joy. If it makes you hungry for a blessing, the church is always open for you. God can use anything to reach us, even a man in robes walking down a street."

SA loves the clip

The video gained massive views, likes, and had people going off in the comments. Some joked that if they had seen him, they would also have run after him for blessings. Others cracked up, saying he came back to fix Kaizer Chiefs, and that's how the team bagged the Nedbank Cup trophy.

There were also jokes about the 49 Afrikaners who sought asylum in the US, saying he was probably out looking for them.
