Top five key players for Sundowns at CWC

1. Themba Zwane

The club captain recently returned from a long-term injury and was seriously missed when the Brazilians lost the CAF Champions League title to Pyramids FC earlier this month.

The South African international was named in the squad Miguel Cardoso is taking to the United States for the competition, and he would be duly needed due to the technicality he brings to the team.

The Bafana Bafana star's importance to the Sundowns side cannot be overemphasised, with Masandawana's coach being criticised for not using him during the two-legged CAF Champions League final.

2. Lucas Ribeiro Costa

Ribeiro was arguably the best player for Mamelodi Sundowns in the just concluded season in the Premier Soccer League and was particularly tipped by many to end up as the Player of the Season in the Betway Premiership.

The Brazilian star won the Golden Boot in the league while scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in 26 matches. He is versatile and can play three positions perfectly in the attack.

3. Ronwen Williams

Williams took the South African flag and Sundowns name globally last year after being named among the best goalkeepers in World football, but injuries have denied him to be in that conversation this season.

The Bafana Bafana captain still has a lot to offer at the Club World Cup, and the Brazilians need him to be fit all through the tournament if they want to get to the latter stages of the competition.

5 Teboho Mokoena

Mokoena brings balance to Mamelodi Sundowns midfield when playing alongside South African star Marcelo Allende. The former SuperSport United star would be needed when Cardoso's side needs to control games in the competition.

The South African international is also known for scoring long-range goals, and he's the best free-kick taker in their squad.
